Our Story

Demi’s Cupcakes was founded in 2022 to meet the needs of people in and around the Richmond VA area who have allergies or intolerances that affect the kinds of desserts they can enjoy, such as dairy allergies, lactose intolerance, and nut allergies. Demitriyah Boyd, a stay-at-home wife and mother, was inspired to begin experimenting with vegan baking by her son, who is severely allergic to dairy but loves sweet desserts. After sourcing various vegan cakes that he could eat, she discovered that the options available only tasted “okay” compared to regular cake recipes and lacked the level of impressive flavor that she thought vegan desserts should have. By sourcing the best organic and vegan ingredients and developing custom colors and piping for an elegant aesthetic appeal, she was able to bring her vision to life: delicious vegan cupcakes that are beautiful to look at and even better to eat, regardless of allergies or intolerances.
